Vertical city

Paris, a coherent city

Thanks to an urban plan focused on preserving its historic heritage, Paris has managed to maintain a high degree of architectural coherence. This effect is created by maximum building heights, which are limited according to arrondissement. In the central arrondissements, the maximum height is lower than in the outlying arrondissements.

To maintain aesthetic harmony, Parisian buildings were built away from the city center. The only exception is the Tour Montparnasse in the 14th arrondissement. Inaugurated in 1973, it offers a unique vantage point over the entire capital.

Architectural renewal

With a view to revitalizing the area, a number of neo-neighborhoods featuring skyscrapers have recently come into being. In the south-east of Paris, on the model of Milan’s Bosco, eco-housing complexes have been built that combine nature and architecture, with beautiful views over the Seine.

La Défense, a European business center

Nevertheless, it’s in La Défense (central business district) that the concentration of skyscrapers is highest. Although the majority of these are company headquarters, some buildings allow you to climb up to enjoy a magnificent panorama. Finally, it’s worth noting that in Paris, skyscrapers have a symbolic maximum height of 324 metres, the same height as the Eiffel Tower.
